Since 1954, LACONI (Library Administrators Conference of Northern Illinois) has been introducing library staff to new technologies and ideas, best practices, and popular programs for children and adults. LACONI is comprised of eight different sections which offer programs designed to enhance skills and knowledge of library staff in their area of expertise.

LACONI membership is open to all libraries. Membership dues are used to pay for informative programs that each section produces. Any member library is welcome to attend the programs, sending as many staff and board members as they wish. There is often a lunch following any section program which allows for the opportunity to meet and network with other librarians from other library systems.

The Youth Services section of LACONI (LACONI YSS) is responsible for developing and maintaining the Harvest of Resources directory as well as providing Youth Services Librarians, and other persons interested in working with youth, an opportunity to network at four informational workshops per year. The YSS Advisory Board is comprised of Youth Services Librarians appointed from the five former library systems supported by LACONI: Chicago, DuPage, Metropolitan, North Suburban and Prairie Area, now known as RAILS.
