When Dan was a child, he spent hours upon hours at his local library checking out books on drawing, painting, cartoons, magic, and how to be a spy. Today he uses his knowledge from the library in his art- all except espionage! Dan Laib using storytelling, hand-painted puppets, props, magic tricks, and live art demonstrations in his shows. Dan's mission is to show kids how much fun and fulfillment comes from learning, picking up a new skill, or developing creativity and expression. These magic and art shows are a 45 minute performance, have a lot of audience participation, and is sure to entertain, inform, and inspire your kids into action!
Here are the shows that are currently offered:

"Gogh-Dan-Gogh" visited our Library for our kick-off to Summer Reading Club 2019. Dan was very lively and engaging with the children; we had approximately 45 children attend with an age range from 1-4th Graders and Dan was able to captivate all ages. Every moment was filled with something fun and interesting! Our theme this year was "It's Showtime At Your Library" and I focused on ART/MAGIC and this was the perfect fit. There was something for everybody from the art concepts to the magic balls to the silly monkey puppet who just couldn't stop peeking. I've had numerous children talk about him, even a week after the event...wow! Dan was FUN, book him..we will definitely book him again!
Wow, wow, wow. Where to even begin?!
We had Dan come out to LTLD for our Summer Reading Program Finale.
We have had magicians come to the library before, but this show was different. Dan created a show that not only captured the attention of the children, but the adults too! The show was outstanding and hilarious. I was giggling in the back of the room the entire time!
Dan is a wonderful performer, very down to earth and friendly. He worked with us to provide this show to our patrons- that's not something every performer is willing to do.
I would 100% recommend this show to any library. It's unlike any magic/art show you will ever see!
Dan was a great performer that we had at the library to help kick-off our Summer Reading Program. He was very enthusiastic with the crowd and was very intuitive with the kids. Even when the kids didn't respond how he needed them, he managed to work with the kids to have them warm up to him. I highly recommend him as a performer because the crowd was very enthused with him and he kept them involved. I cannot rave enough about how friendly, down to earth and kid friendly Dan was during the whole time he was at the library. I 100% believe that Dan will be back at the Wilmington Public and I highly recommend him for performances!
Dan's Exploring New Worlds show was a big hit at our library! This interactive show combined elements of art, comedy, magic, storytelling, and more, and it was enjoyed by both our youth and adult patrons.
As a professional, Dan was very communicative and flexible, (especially when we had to ask him to reschedule due to a facility emergency). I especially appreciated how Dan took it in stride and responded with creative kindness when some of our most enthusiastic patrons got a bit too close.
I am the Youth Services Manager at TCPL in Elburn and scheduled Dan for two programs as part of our summer reading. He was very responsive and helpful during the scheduling process and answered all my questions. Specifically, we booked Drawing 101 and the Music-Inspired Art classes. We mainly had children participate in the drawing class and more tweens/teens for the music class. Both were a huge hit but our patrons especially enjoyed the unique music art class and requested it again! Dan was great with the young patrons and I would highly recommend his programs!
Dan performed his Art and Magic Show as part of our Summer Reading Program lineup. His show did not disappoint! He had the kids in stitches almost the entire time and they were amazed by his magic tricks. Dan was on time, professional, and a pleasure to work with. He brought all of his own equipment, including a fun backdrop. We will definitely have him back again in the future!
On the recommendation of our library director, who had heard excellent word of mouth on Dan Laib at a West of 57 meeting, we booked Dan's "Magic and Art Show" at the Princeton Public Library for the Casimir Pulaski holiday. This was a first-time tryout for a daytime youth event on a school day off, and we pulled in an excellent crowd of over 115 (at least 65 children). Dan was great to work with from start to finish, and his show was extremely well-received, with lots of positive feedback after the performance. We appreciated that Dan incorporated educational concepts on design and color theory into his program, but the kids loved his silliness. Dan also did a great job of handling an exciteable crowd. I would say that he is best for an elementary age audience, but even the adults were amazed by his optical illusion tricks. We have invited Dan back to do another show for summer reading, and we anticipate an even larger crowd.
I'm the kids' zone coordinator at the Park Forest Public Library. I booked Dan for our 2017 Summer Reading Finale. Our theme was Reading by Design. All of our programs were centered around Art and Designs. When I found a post card about Dan's Art and Magic show, I knew he would be the perfect performance to end our Summer Program. His Art and Magic show was a HUGE hit with our patrons and staff. We are definitely booking Dan again in the future.
Dan was part of our Summer Reading Program this summer for "Reading by Design." He perfectly blended his workshop theme into what our kids had been working on all week- illustrating stories. He led the group in a drawing of Little Bear and Goldilocks from The Three Little Bears. He discussed the work an illustrator does in creating the characters we see in our stories. With humor, some silliness, and even a little magic he kept everyone engaged and showed the group that anyone can draw. Everyone loved his workshop and we have received compliments since his show here at the library. We will work with Dan in the future! Thank you, Dan, for a wonderful program!
My staff and patrons tell me Dan was wonderful. They enjoyed the program immensely. I am sorry I missed it but will definitely have him back again.
Dan was outstanding. He taught the elements of design in a unique way that kids and adults will remember.
We had Dan here for the "Art of Design" show this summer. The kids all had a great time learning about design. The adults were also engaged in his program. From the back-end perspective, Dan was very easy to work with.
We had Dan perform his "Art of Design Art Show" for our summer reading program, and it was fantastic! What a clever way to teach kids about the elements of design! A great family show--enjoyed by both the adults and kids who attended. I never hesitate to hire Dan. He is professional, organized, punctual, and has a great rapport with the kids. Dan has done art lessons and art shows for us, and we always receive positive feedback. I highly recommend Dan--you won't be disappointed!
Dan was phenomenal! We booked his Magic and Art Show during our Reading By Design Summer Reading Program and his creativity and originality was a breath of fresh air! He kept the kids engaged and entertained while combining his knack of art and magic, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Highly recommend Dan Laib!
Dan Liab is truly one of a kind performer. He demystifies the world of art and design for children by simplifying it to terms they can understand and participate in! A program for all ages - entertaining, colorful and interactive. Book Dan for a fun and educational time at your library.
