Laura Doherty is a Chicago-based children's performer and recording artist with an ear for a catchy melody. Laura’s musical adventures first took listeners into the world of big-city-living, as seen through a child’s eyes, with her Parents’ Choice winning albums Kids in the City (2009) followed by the equally endearing Shining Like a Star (2011) and In a Heartbeat (2014). Her newest album "Animal Tracks" (2016) is a collection of her favorite animals songs she's recorded, plus 3 new songs!

Often joined by her band of Chicago talent on stage, The Heartbeats, Doherty has performed hundreds of shows at countless libraries, schools, premier venues and festivals around Chicago and nationwide. She performs anywhere from solo, duo and trio shows, on up to a 5-6 piece band. Her concerts often feature her adorable puppet friends Jazzasaurus, Pinky the Fish, and Domingo the Flamingo! Her upbeat, interactive concerts will have kids dancing and clapping along to Laura's original catchy tunes!

For over a decade, Laura was the Director of the Old Town School’s early-childhood Wiggleworms program. In 2009 she took a daring leap and decided to go full-time with kids’ music, showing an intense passion for creating sweet, folk-inspired songs for children and families.

Rates range from $350-$550 for solo. Options available for duo and trio shows, which adds in upright bass and/or drums.

We absolutely loved having Laura Doherty at our library. Wonderful songs and performance. Our patrons are requesting her return!

To date, she has probably been our highest-attended musical performance (for kids at least) at the library. Old Town School of Folk Music was in my old neighborhood and I can vouch for there being a lot of talent from there generally, but Laura herself is warm and accessible, and is a very solid performer. She was out at my library twice. Once with the Wiggleworms, and the other--as mentioned before--the highly attended solo performance where we had her out for the debut of one of our storytime cycles. Easy to work with and enjoyable to hear.
