Since their first concert in 2007 as part of the Chicago Latino Music Festival, the Ondas Ensemble has been delighting audiences with their inventive and unique programming of new and historic works.
Ondas – which means “waves” in both Spanish and Portuguese, also means “cool” or “latest trend.” Ondas works closely with contemporary composers, developing new works for chamber ensemble. Programming includes exciting collaborations with other music groups, guest artists such as Orbert Davis (trumpet), and dancers.
Ondas’ performing members bring to the ensemble an impressive array of talent and cultural diversity. Our core instrumentation is soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, guitar, cello and piano that can expand or contract. Our programs include “From Choro to Tango” (flute, clarinet & piano); “Nadia Boulanger – Her Musical Legacy in the Americas” (soprano, flute, clarinet & piano), “Tribute to Heitor Villa-Lobos” (flute, clarinet, violin, cello & piano) and “From Bossa Nova to Tango” (soprano, flute & guitar).
As part of Ondas’ many offerings, we offer a variety of educational programs including, “From the Old World to the New” which we perform for the International Music Foundation, and “O Saci” by Brazilian composer, Miguel Kertsman. “O Saci,” a multi-media work with actors/dancers was premiered in London’s Covent Garden Theater in August 2009 and Ondas did the U.S. premiere production in Chicago in 2011.
Past seasons have included performances at the Chicago Latino Music Festival, Ravinia Music Festival, various live shows on WFMT-FM radio, and WTTW’s “Chicago Tonight.”
(Please note that fees vary depending on the size of the ensemble requested, and length of performance. Fee below is for a three piece ensemble. Fees average $175-$250 per performer)
“I have heard the Ondas Ensemble twice now. In each concert they present a broad range of music styles and a variety of historical periods from Latin America. The ensemble performs with extraordinary precision and expression. Their concerts inform and tantalize, whetting the audience’s appetite for more Latin American music and art.”

“The Ondas Ensemble is a versatile, engaging and multi-faceted group of musicians who play complex music with ease, verve and intensity. Whether it is a dense multi-layered texture, a lyrical melody or angular rhythm, the Ondas Ensemble always projects musical ideas with clarity, conviction and style. Its members are consummate players who communicate to a wide audience as easily and effectively as they communicate with each other.”

“The music we heard during today’s visit from the Ondas Ensemble was both familiar and energetic! My students enjoyed learning about each of the instruments and hearing first hand how they sound together as duets or trios. It was all we could do to keep ourselves from ‘tango-ing’ out of the auditorium!”
